Who We Are

Habla is an English-as-a-second-language (ESL) program for custodial staff, landscaping staff, and other Stanford community members. We match Stanford students with community members for one-on-one English language coaching. Habla focuses on real-world language skills, from handling parent-teacher conferences to studying for citizenship tests.

What We Do

We operate on a mutual learning mindset, encouraging both students and community members to gain valuable skills and experiences through language education and cultural exchange.

Habla pairs meet at least twice a week, 30 minutes per session, at a time and location most convenient for the learner. We plan lessons around the personal needs and wants of our learners.

The org is led by Habla Core, a group of students passionate about ESL and service. We support coaches in developing lesson plans and strategies to implement during their tutoring sessions. Our 1-unit course equips students with a foundational understanding of ESL instruction, practical experience with developing educational materials for language learning, and a collaborative space to reflect on the tutoring experience.
